The outside was well designed. You can walk from the visitor's center to the crash site, or drive down and park closer to it. The Tower of Voices is near the entrance from the main road and not by the visitor's center. It says the wind needs to be mph for the chimes to sound. Lots of wild flowers planted in the area.
When we were there, masks were required to go into the Visitor's Center. Large property that illustrates the flight path and the crash location. The flight path memorial building includes the story of the sad day.

Site of the most courageous act in US History. I think it was the fact that these 40 ordinary individuals risked everything to protect our nation's capital on that fateful day after learning about what was transpiring.
Do not miss the Tower of Voices near the entrance. I encourage you to walk slowly on the trail from the Visitor's Center down near the impact zone. Look all around that ordinary field. Spend quiet time looking at each of the 40 names memorialized. The Visitor's Center is well laid out with some powerful memories, artifacts, and facts from that day I had never seen. Read about the cockpit voice recorder and the data recorders which were the only ones of the four hijacked planes recovered.
Do listen to the phone calls of the passengers. You won't forget and will wonder what you might have said in that situation. It is worth the visit, and a quiet, reflective stroll around the grounds, to see where a terrible history occurred The new Tower of Voices and Visitor Center is a "must" for children as well as adults. A large facility with plenty of videos and actual recordings from passengers when they knew that this plane was headed for Washington, DC.

I would give it at least 3 hours. There is so much to take in and the emotion of the place is overwhelming at times. Also the whole site of the memorial is very large and spread out. There are things to read in all three sites. It so worth it.

Considering stopping on our road trip home for the holidays. About how long would it take to quickly view everything in the visitor center? I don't know the estimated completion date. I'm planning a trip there at the end of this month. The courts may have the final say. Government lawyers are expected to file a lawsuit in Pittsburgh next week to condemn the property for public use.
