When is partying too much

If your attitude has gone from upbeat and happy to defensive and sour, this may be because you are partying too much. When you first get a buzz, you are happy. But after the buzz and into the hangover, attitude changes from positive to negative.

Your poor attitude is likely because you are tired and are experiencing the downside of alcohol and drugs. If you are tired of hearing friends and family members complain about your attitude or accuse you of partying too much, then you are partying too much. When people you would normally trust and respect are making you feel defensive with the questions they ask, the problems are likely with you, not them.

If you notice yourself moving away from positive influences in your life and toward negative influences, you are partying too much. You are surrounding yourself with friends who will not help you when you need it, even when your physical health starts to suffer. Partying too much leads to many physical ailments. You will notice more headaches, likely caused by dehydration.

Your muscles may cramp or spasm, you may gain or lose weight without trying, and you can experience digestion problems. Long-term partying can lead to liver and kidney damage, as well as dependence on drugs or alcohol, which can lead to addiction and can affect your mental health.

Your mental health is directly connected to how healthy your lifestyle is and the things you do to stay mentally fit. Drinking too much alcohol or using drugs are considered unhealthy activities that lead to different mental illnesses. Some people party to self-medicate their mental health problems. If you are dating a woman who goes to this type of party on a regular basis, it would certainly be understandable for you to feel insecure.

If your girlfriend is completely committed to you, you should be able to trust her. If she isn't committed, she could potentially meet someone else. If your girlfriend avoids social situations where no one will be drinking or doing drugs, but seems excited about any social event where she can drink or get high, then she may have a problem with substance abuse.

This doesn't necessarily mean she's addicted. Many people drink too much or have a problematic relationship with alcohol without being full-blown alcoholics. It is important to note that drugs and alcohol can cause problems in your girlfriend's life and in your relationship even if she isn't technically addicted.

If you suspect that your girlfriend has a problem with drugs or alcohol, the most important thing is not to make it any worse by doing anything that would make it easier for her to drink or use drugs. Don't buy her alcohol or leave alcohol around the house. Don't suggest going out to a party where people will be drinking or taking drugs. With a total stranger. You got your first DUI, or had a close call with a cop. You wrecked a car.

You woke up bruised. You look like they have begun applying the make-up for your Walking Dead cameo. Are you piling up a lot of former best friends? And speaking of friends…. And you do not want them to meet each other. Like, ever. So you spend more effort keeping people apart than Charlie Sheen at a family reunion. You call in sick. You cancel appointments, even with your mom.

It takes more to get you off. For just two months at first, stop everything. An exception: extreme alcoholism as well as addiction to certain prescription drugs like Xanax can be very dangerous to stop cold turkey.

You may need professional detox. There are questionaires to determine if you have a serious drug problem. A sobering wake-up call might be all the help you need, but sometimes you need professional resources.

There are LGBT friendly treatment programs. And there are gay meetings in most major cities of Alcoholics Anonymous and Crystal Meth Anonymous , with some pretty cool people waiting to help.

Sometimes, life is a game of musical chairs. It could just as easily be applied to gambling, shopping, or anything taken to excess to the point that you feel the need to hide it from people.

But meth seems different, always ending in disaster. Frankly, gay men are really bad with funding for services like substance use. AIDS si, alcoholism no. Go figure. Everybody has heard about the dangers of meth going in. I was young and moved in with this tweaker and he of coarse got me hooked immediately. At first it was great. Just thought it was like strong caffeine.

I could finally be up after midnight and never be tired again. I went from a wall flower to someone people liked being around. This was before all this anti meth advertising you see. My jokes flew over his head because his brain was no longer sharp enough to retain them. And I felt depressed because hanging out with Max was like looking into a mirror. I immediately thought back to the days I've gone to work hungover.

I literally forgot words in my articles, couldn't spell for shit and my thoughts were totally disjointed. So this is just a sweet, subtle reminder that our excessive partying can and will make us really dumb, kittens. Because I'm vain AF and grew up in a looks-obssessed environment, I always feared partying would make me look like shit.

But I didn't think about what partying does to my brain But I don't want to be dumb, babes. And I think right now, in this fragile moment of American history given the recent election , we can't afford to be dumb.

Maybe our nation elected Donald Trump because we're all partied-out idiots who couldn't fully wrap our brains around what it meant to have a reality TV star leading our country. And even though alcohol doesn't technically kill your brain cells like cocaine which actually causes your brain to eat itself — a super lovely thought , it still slows us down and has been proven to make our communication and focus much worse.

So, kittens, let's lay off the drugs. Drinking in moderation is fine — even getting wasted occasionally is OK in my books, too. But let's try not to black out, and let's say no to drugs forever. We're already gorgeous on the outside, but I want us to be fierce and gorgeous on the inside, too.

We want to be people of substance, present in the heat of the moment.
